bumper crop today!&#8221; &#8212; AHDA\" src=\"https:\/\/ahda.org.uk\/blog\/2021\/08\/28\/apples-apples-and-more-apples-bumper-crop-today\/embed\/#?secret=2cy0UGYxpP#?secret=XKnTgfv21c\" data-secret=\"XKnTgfv21c\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption>Apple Picking Aug 2021<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">AHDA and The Orchard Project<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:15px\">In 2016 members of <strong>AHDA lead by Jenny Chalmers<\/strong> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theorchardproject.org.uk\/about-us\/contact-us\/\"><strong>The Orchard Project<\/strong> <\/a>set about finding the orchard which had been hidden within a jungle of brambles and litter for many years.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The land is owned by London Borough of Redbridge and is on the grounds of the Dick Turpin Pub. The orchard is said to date back to the late 1800&#8217;s as shown on Ordinance Survey maps 1843 &#8211; 1893.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2017 The Orchard Project planted 5 new apple trees to add to the existing 8 established apple trees and a pear tree. The orchard includes Bramley, Chelmsford Wonder, Ashmead\u2019s Kernel, Peasgood Nonsuch, Blenheim Orange, Chelmsford Wonder, Ashmead\u2019s Kernel. The pear is Green Pear of Yair D\u2019Arcy Spice. <br>As a result of the hard work the orchard won The Community Tree Award at the 2017 London Tree and Woodland Awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The orchard is home to an array of biodiversity including Shaggy Polypore (fungus), stag beetles, a host of beautiful butterflies including Holly Blue, and the Common Darter dragonfly.
