Gravel Meeting 24/1/22

Cllr John Howard had given apologies as he was unwell and Simon Treacy took the meeting. AHDA attended the meeting and the following notes were taken:

  • Cleaning of the ditches still has NOT been done.  No one seemed sure if Manjit was back but Barnabus Sawe said he would catch up with her.
  • The map for the hedgerows not completed so no method statement, Brett did confirm again they would look after what they are responsible for.
  • There was a note at the end of the last meeting (5th October 2021), stated that there needed to be a chase up of both – this was from Cllr John Howard.
  • No one seemed sure whether the wildflower seeding had been completed, the contractor seems to be difficult to contact. Likely to be finished in the spring, although this may conflict with ground nesting birds.
  • The flooding and the hydro tests show that Bretts is not responsible, there is a High Water table and Simon Treacy has met with Gerald and others.
  • Whilst there is no wheel wash at the plant, the new site manager Martin Smith said that as soon as there was an incident, they would deal with it.
  • Bawdsey Ave – nothing done
  • Planning permission was granted for the ‘building’ at the end of the site and the work has started to construct it.

The Development Update.

Brett Tarmac Ltd has become Brett Ltd and their Restoration Officer is Henry Carter.

In Area F, 14,000 tons removed and they anticipate 40,000 left and this will be done by late March/early April.  They have been supplying local concrete projects and done the strimming when needed.

It was agreed that we would be notified by email when the Benonite wall is to be installed – they are currently firming up this with the contractor and they will do a letter drop – this should be late Spring/early summer.

  • Brett Ltd is holding off on any further planning/restoration until the Council’s Masterplan is published – and Angela Watts will lead for Bretts.  Chris G sent Angela the first draft.
  • Chris raised specific wildlife monitoring and that is being undertaken by Sam Watson from Bioscam
  • The reptile traps are out standing and the trapping has been completed.
  • More action needed on the control of ragwort and goats rue in the Aldborough Hatch Nature Reserve
  • All the dates on the Fairlop consultation documents regarding gravel extraction were wrong and Angela Watts, Brett’s new planning person is looking into it.
  • Possible illegal activity on Red House and Aldborough Hatch Farm. It was suggested to pass to enforcement.
  • Date of next meeting is 25th April 2022.
